Exit Glacier
It’s a fabulous sunny day.....don’t get a whole lot of these in Alaska! We had breakfast, did a few chores and then headed out in the truck to drive up to Exit Glacier. The road leading up to it is a excellent paved 2 lane road, one of the best I’ve seen in all Alaska. It dead ends at the parking lot for the Kenai Fjords National Park. The Exit Glaciers is 3 miles long and descends some 2,500 ft from the much larger Harding Ice Fields which covers some 500 sq. miles.
WE took park in the ranger led hick to the base of the Glaciers and the outwash plains. It was very informative and gave us some of the history of the Glaciers and it’s recession to where it is today. (It is moving back each year.) We saw hunks of ice from the Glacier floating by in the river. At the end of the hike we continued on to the side of the Glacier. It was quite a bit cooler up there.
After our hike we drove around the area to see if we could spot any wildlife, but were not very successful.
Back to the trailer, dinner and an early night as if the weather is good we want to do a cruise tomorrow.
